FDF: Catching up

So I’ve gotten behind on the Forty Day Fast links, so instead of trying to get them posted each day, I have put them all in a box in the sidebar.  Just click on the name to be connected to their post.  Check back each day to read the posts!

Today, there is a post about SIFE, Students in Free Enterprise, which is a really cool organization that allows students to use the skills and knowledge they are learning and teach people who, for whatever reason, face barriers that prevent them from stepping into a free market economy.  Today’s second post comes from LeslieBrooke.com and focuses on Water Aid, an international charity whose mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.  What is cool about this group is that it works within the communities themselves to build the water source, so that the community not only gains some ownership in the project, but also is able to manage and/or fix any problems that may arise with it.

Today includes a post from Steven at steven.russell in which he discusses the vast difference between the haves and the have-nots in our country.  It includes a video from the guys of Under the Overpass, (a book you should definitely read if you have not.)  The second post for today comes from Sarah and she discusses persecuted Christians throughout the world.

Today, Laura at Texis in Africa offers a heart-wrenching post on the violence women face in the Congo.  The second post comes from Beth at Bulletproof Living.

Jason Gray wrote one of today’s Forty Day Fast posts talking about his passion for World Vision and the reasons he is involved with them.  It is seriously one of the best posts I have ever read.  Today’s second post comes from The Reluctant Catepillar and highlights the International Justice Mission and the work they do to help victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression.

Today is the eighth day of the Forty Day fast.  Today’s posts come from Licia at RHFH Rescue Center and Chris at Coffee with Chris.  If you missed them over the weekend, here are the posts from Days 6 and 7:

Day 6:  Scott and Gene

Day 7:  Lorijo and Fay

Weekend Getaway

We had such a great weekend away!  We spent some time at a friend’s cabin and had tons of fun.  There were six families total and it is truly hard to describe the mix.  We are all totally different but when we get together, it just works and hilarity is sure to ensue.  There were times we were just plain silly and laughed til we cried, and other times where we talked for hours over some pretty serious stuff.  The kids got to fish and swim and play and get dirty and just be kids.  It was just a fun weekend spent with people we love.  Despite the fact that I am super exhausted from staying up way too late every night and feel fat from eating WAY too much, my spirit is filled beyond capacity.  Here are a few of the hundreds of pictures I took.
